This applies mostly to the DaatStorm F3 1.2 Meter dish but can be applied generally to anyone receiving this consistently. DataStorm D2 v.3.7.5 06/3/05 Line Count = 14744 [For Java; Must use Java v1.4.2] REQUIRED UPGRADE FROM 3.7.3 OR LOWER A TEST DISH MUST BE DONE AFTER THIS UPGRADE! * New partial isolation routine [Xpol] to improve connection reliability A new Xpol routine has been introduced for improved connection through the satellite. > Automatic * New background peaking option If enabled when the signal quality drops below 5 points, the dish will automatically repeak itself for optimal signal gain. Location: >Configuration [Disabled by default] * New dish light enable option Adds the ability to turn off/on the blue LED dish lights. Location: > Configuration [Enabled by default] * New skew origin setting (to help align dish) After performing a successful Xpol the D2 will take the projected skew of the satellite and the actual ending skew value and make the necessary adjustments to even out the value. > Automatic * New telnet GPS command for debugging GPS problems Shows the following information about GPS: version-Version of the upper control board # sats-The number of GPS satellites currently found max # sats-The maximum number of GPS satellites ever found first time sat-The time it took to see the first GPS satellite lock time-The time taken to acquire a GPS lock in order to find satellite [4-5 GPS satellites required] temp-The upper control board temperature By default this will refresh once a second for 1000 seconds. > Telnet > type ‘GPS’ * New upper control board GPS reset The D2 will automatically manage and if necessary reset the Furuno GPS module on the upper control board. This eliminates many ‘n/a’ GPS situations that could be troubleshot as a failing GPS module. > Automatic * New Modem status link Links directly to the satellite modem based on the modem gateway in the network configuration. * New resident firmware upgrade utility that allows users access to faster future updates without entering the bootloader Adds the ability to directly upgrade the software from the D2 HTML interface. By clicking the Upgrade Firmware link you can directly access the typical HTML upgrade utility and browse for and load a new software update without pressing any buttons, or changing any IP addresses. * Automatic network settings restart When changing any network setting [except modem gateway], the D2 will automatically reboot and try and connect at its IP address after a change has been confirmed. Location: > Configuration > Configure Network Parameters * Enhanced iDirect support Adds more refined iDirect code. > Automatic * New About information Adds the version of D2 firmware you are currently running. Location: > About * New Windows administration utility Similar to early releases of the DataStorm software, this Windows based utility allows users to run their DataStorm system while not using a web browser. Some features and benefits are: -Faster refresh times on values - All-in-one easy to manage interface -Import and Export options on D2 configurations [using the ‘Configure’ button properties] -Smoother running manual motor functions -D2 IP address finder [using the ‘Connect’ button] -Easy to setup installation This new utility is for Windows XP users only. This is not a replacement for the HTML interface; rather, it’s an optional user interface experience. Location: > Shortcut on Desktop * BETA New Windows navigator utility Another Windows only utility. This enables DataStorm users to use the GPS information from their dish for other purposes. As it stands when a user is driving in a straight line for 3-4 seconds with Navigator open, you can use it as a compass calibrator to see how well your calibration of the compass was done. The GPS° heading is always the value to compare against. If found that the compass is more than 15° off, a compass calibration is needed. Taking the GPS heading number in red, subtracting it from the compass heading in blue, will give you this offset in order to determine your compass accuracy. Keep in mind that the accuracy will be non-effective when making any kind of turn or the vehicle is moving less than 10 mph. In the future this tool’s abilities will be expanded using the now defunct ‘shortcuts’ button. Location: > Shortcut on Desktop * Added automatic network clock update When the DataStorm gets online it will automatically set its internal clock via a web based time server. > Automatic * Removed "checking last known position" when changing satellites * Default azimuth search window in 45° The default search window in azimuth is now set at 45° instead of 25° DataStorm D2 v.3.7.3 03/29/05 Line Count = 12878 [For Java; Must use Java v1.4.2] NON-REQUIRED UPGRADE FROM 3.7.1 REQUIRED UPGRADE FROM 3.6.4 OR LOWER * New arrangement of the status values on the main system status page for easy to read and compare statistics. * The 'Update Settings' button on the configuration page is visible no matter where you are on the page. * The D2 recognizes DiRECWAY modems within 5 seconds of their LAN communication becoming active. DataStorm D2 v.3.7.1 03/14/05 Line Count = 12806 REQUIRED UPGRADE FROM 3.6.4 OR LOWER Firmware Upgrade Version 3.7.1 is the first non Beta Firmware Release. This Firmware meets the minimum requirements set forth in the original design. Through out the many Beta releases there have been many enhancements added to the software that were not part of the original specifications but were requests made by the DataStorm Users group and other DataStorm Customers. This is not the Final Version of DataStorm D2 code, just the first version that has met the original design criteria. We shall continue to improve the D2 firmware and offer other improvements and enhancements from time to time. * Enhanced TCPIP Connection-allows the D2, DirecWay Modem, and the Computer to power up in any sequence and the D2 Status Page will open without latching up. [Note: A screen refresh may be necessary due to Internet Explorer configuration. -48 Err (No DirecWay) on the D2 Status Page will display while waiting for the DW6000 or DW4020 to initialize properly. This sometimes will take up to one minute] * D2/Dw6000 Latch Up has been eliminated after system completes Search or ACP. [Note: Sometimes the DW6000 will latch up on its own. This latch up is not due to or related to the D2 Controller.] * Auto Elevation Origin feature corrects dish/mount offset errors after finding the correct Satellite the Elevation Origin Value in the D2 Configuration will update automatically. * IDirect Compatible is a new addition which will communicate with the IDirect Modems very similar to the way the D2 communicates to the DirecWay modem. * Automatic Compass Calibration has been implemented for mobile platforms that were not able to perform the standard 2 point compass calibration. Depending on the local magnetic fields around the dish and mount the results of this calibration will differ greatly. [Note: This calibration is initialized through a Telnet session. Contact Technical Support for more information on using this feature. * Three Minute GPS Wait is a enhancement that will cause the Dish to move if no GPS has been detected for a period of 3 minutes after the search button is selected. The system will still be able to locate and find the satellite if No GPS is available but the Search and ACP time will increase. * NVClear after firmware upgrades. After this version of Firmware is upgraded into the D2 controller and subsequent upgrades will not require an NVClear. [Note: An NVClear is necessary after loading this version of Firmware. Then all Firmware upgrades from this version will operate correctly without requiring an NVClear. * New HTML Firmware Upgrade Screen. DataStorm Firmware Version 3.7.0 and higher have the ability to upgrade to newer versions of Firmware via a new HTML Firmware Upgrade Screen. The new HTML Firmware Upgrade will upgrade Firmware in under 6 minutes as compared to previous 30 minute upgrades. Important Note!! This new HTML Screen is only available if the D2 controller has the new Boot Load Version 3.0 installed. This Boot Load was released on March 7, 2005. Currently this new Version of Boot Loader is only installable at the Factory. MotoSAT is working on ways to upgrade the Boot Load Firmware in the field but this may take several months. If you would like to upgrade your D2 to the latest Boot Load Version 3.0 please contact Technical Support for more information. DataStorm D2 v.3.6.4 Beta 02/10/05 Line Count = 12581 [For Java; Must use Java v1.4.2] * Display last known stowed compass and GPS readings on the system status page throughout a find satellite. [No more 'n/a' readings during a find satellite.] * Removed the tilt cal part of the test dish function. Set El Origion to 225. * The elevation origin will be adjusted each time the dish finds satellite. This adjustment will equal the error from the calculated elevation to the found elevation. * The Az and El origins are now in degrees instead of counts. * GPS heading, GPS Velocity, GPS Altitude and Upper Board temperature were removed from the status screen. * Defaults were added for the Manual latutude and longitude. Numbers entered without a directional will be treated as being in the North and West by default. For the South or East the directional must be entered. * A Command was added to telnet to force an UCB update it is ucbupdate. After this command is typed then the system need to be powered off then back on. * The system would upgrade the UCB at times if the UCB was unplugged or not connected properly when it was turned on. This is now fixed. The UCB will never be programmed unless it is verified that the version of code on the UCB is not current or the ucbupdate command is entered from telnet. * Changed Modem address to modem gateway and gateway address to router gateway in the network configuration screen * Added a function to monitor the DirecWay modems. The status screen will no longer lock up if they are not present instead an error code will be displayed. [Error-48 which means DIRECWAY NOT READY; the LNB must also be connected and on for the D2 to clear this status.] * If GPS does not activate within 3 minutes of pressing the find button the previous GPS values will be used and the system will go up and search. While the system is waiting for the GPS the number of satellies present will be displayed on the status line. * Added a compass offset in the configuration. So if the compass is off then this offset can be set to bring it in line. This eliminates the need to open the search window. * Moved licencing information to the about screen * Added to the sensors command so that it can be put in a loop. [telnet to the D2 address then type 'sensors' as the command.]. Specify the number of times for it to run. It will execute the sensors command once every two seconds for the number of times specified. [i.e. 'sensors 10' will run 10 sensors reads 2 seconds apart=20 sec] * Set default ping addr to 0.0.0.0 and timout to 0 * Error codes have changed. Please see the 'd2_error_codes' document under D2 software for the current error code updates. DataStorm D2 v.3.6.3 Beta 01/31/05 * When the check to see if the dish had moved since the last time on satellite was added the code was changed to read the compass every time. This caused the dish to search in the wrong place if the search button was pressed when the dish was in the air. This was fixed. DataStorm D2 v.3.6.2 Beta 01/24/05 * There was a bug in the furuno code making Western Longitudes wrong and Southern Latitudes wrong. This was fixed. DataStorm D2 v.3.6.1 Beta 01/14/05 * There was a debug statement left in the furuno code that made it so the Upper Control Boards with the furuno GPS would not work. * Implementation of the Furuno GPS on the Upper Control Board * Implementation of the Memsic Accellerometer on the Upper Control Board * Configuration screen updated with combined information for easier updates DataStorm D2 v.3.6.0 Beta 12/15/04 * Included apparent F3 fixes to reduce motor turn-on time * Fixed 'Last known position return' bug DataStorm D2 v.3.5.8 Beta 09/29/04 * Includes support to place the D2 behind a router on a network * Fixes apparent miscount problems leading to inability to find satellite Hardware Changes/Updates 01/10/05 * Resistor change for all D2 positioners running F3 1.2 meter antenna systems.
